Destructive Behaviours – Many people engage in destructive behaviours. Some have ‘managed risk’ and others are on a path to self-explode. This workshop looks at the various types of destructive behaviours and explores key issues that usually underpin such behaviours. Interventions and tactics to minimise risk will be discussed and information regarding signposting to various appropriate agencies will be delivered.Interventions and tactics to reduce risk and information regarding signposting will be discussed.
Self-Harm – Self-harm is a growing phenomenon and is causing grave concern to professionals. The National Service Framework and NICE Guidelines state that anyone who works with clients who may self-harm must receive training in this difficult and complex subject. Self-harm can often be mistaken for suicide. This is not the case, although many of the pre-disposing risk factors for self-harm and suicide are the same. This training aims to inform participants of the function of self-harm and facilitate understanding in what is a very difficult area. Participants will also have interventions and skills that will enable them to respond appropriately to episodes of self-harm following this training. Alternatives will be explored and signposting options discussed.
Intensively supporting the person who self-harms: This training follows on from the initial self-harm training and explores in detail interventions that may be offered when working closely with someone who self-harms. Alternative coping strategies will be discussed in depth and multi-agency partnership working with signposting options will be explored. This training is suitable for those who work short and long term with clients who have complex needs and self-harm issues.
