Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender
Historically, the needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBT) have been largely unmet in the education, social care and health arenas. This has been changing over the years with growing awareness of the difficulties many within this group face. The young LGBT community frequently lack access to appropriate information regarding sex and relationships education (SRE), their sexual health, or where to find support. For many the reality discrimination, bullying and victimisation. This in turn is likely to impact upon their emotional health, and can also effect behaviours.
By raising organisational and individual awareness within the health, social care, education and employment arenas; staff can support, signpost, inform and educate whilst promoting equality, diversity and tolerance.
