Emotional Health Starts Here– The emotional health of children and young people starts with their understanding of and ability to communicate a wide range of emotions. We are born able to experience emotions but not necessarily how to convey these through language or differentiate subtle nuances. For example many children exhibit anger when what they really feel is frustration, sorrow or fear. To enable children and young people to process their feelings, they need words and an understanding of the nuances of language in relation to emotions and emotional states. Emotional articulacy is imperative to enable the conveyance of emotions. However, underpinning this is emotional intelligence. This training aims to raise awareness of the fundamental concepts that support emotional intelligence and articulacy, discussing tactics and interventions, to support an emotionally aware and healthy environment for children, young people, young adults and practitioners.

It discusses normal adolescent development in relation to risk-taking and frames issues contextually. This group are notoriously difficult to engage with and this training offers tried and tested interventions for short and long-term interventions that are effective and meaningful.
